Several different organisations are involved with this project, offering expertise, services and staff.
NHS Lincolnshire
Primary care services are usually the first point of contact when you are ill or need advice about health matters. Primary care is provided by GPs, pharmacists, dentists, opticians, practice nurses, community nurses, therapists and a range of other health professionals working in the community. NHS Lincolnshire is responsible for the whole of Lincolnshire. The main taks of Primary Care Trusts are to improve the health of the local community, to develop primary and community health services, to plan and fund hospital services and to provide a range of community health services.
The Centre for Clinical and Academic Workforce Innovation (CCAWI)
CCAWI was established in 2005 and sits within the faculty of Health, Life and Scoial Sciences at the University of Lincoln. The Centre has developed unmatched expertise through previous research and development within the health and education sectors. Centre staff have substantial publication records and a strong track record in organisational development and clinical and academic workforce innovation. CCAWI’s mission statement is ‘An expert resource available to Government policy strategists and health and education economies that can create and drive clinical and academic workforce innovation’.
The Health Foundation
The Health Foundation is a charitable foundation working to improve the quality of healthcare across the UK and beyond. In partnership with others, they are helping to shape a future healthcare system that offers safe, effective and esponsive care for all. REST is funded by the Health Foundation as part of their Engaging With Quality in Primary Care Programme.
The National Institute for Health Research
The goal of the NIHR is to create a health research system in which the NHS supports outstanding individuals, working in world class facilities, conducting leading edge research focused on the needs of patients and the public. The NHS reputation for international excellence is growing as it gains recognition for being the preferred host for collaborative and multi-centred research in the public interest in partnership with and for industry. This will benefit patients, society, the NHS and all our stakeholders.
The Primary Care Research Network
The Primary Care Research Network’s (PCRN) main goal is to increase the number of patients recruited or involved in clinical trials and other well designed primary care studies. The Network will bring together a wide variety of primary care practitioners, including GPs, dentists, pharmacists and health visitors and will offer patients in primary care settings unprecedented opportunities to become involved in high quality clinical studies involving innovations in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and health care delivery in the community.
National Institute for Health Research, Research Design Service for the East Midlands (formerly Trent RDSU)
National Institute for Health Research Research Design Services (NIHR RDSs) aim to increase the volume and quality of successful grant applications for NIHR funding. To do this they provide expert advice to help local researchers to develop and design high quality research proposals for submission to national, peer-reviewed funding competitions for applied health or social care research. Each RDS is part of the NIHR infrastructure and this support is provided free of charge. The NIHR RDS for the East Midlands (RDS EM) has its main bases in Leicester and Nottingham with a small team of administrative and information resources staff based in Sheffield and other associated staff located within the geographical area covered by the RDS. There is a wide skill-mix of staff including statisticians, qualitative researchers, epidemiologists, health economists and information specialists. RDS staff are research-active and have considerable expertise in developing and designing high quality research proposals.
UK Mental Health Research Network, East Midlands Hub
The UK Mental Health Research Network has been established to provide the NHS infrastructure to support both non-commercial and commercial large scale research in mental health, including clinical trials. UK Mental Health Research Network (MHRN) is part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), and is funded by the Department of Health.
In England the Nework is made up of regional corsotia known as Hubs. The East Midlands Hub consists of the Derbyshire Mental Health Serivces NHS Trust, Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, the University of Lincoln, the University of Nottingham, and several service user and carer groups.
